Trecator (Ethionamide)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Trecator is used in the treatment of tuberculosis. It should only be used with other drugs active against tuberculosis as resistance will rapidly develop if used alone.
Side Effects
The most significant side effects are: gastrointestinal intolerance, numbness of fingers and toes, lightheadness upon arising and skin rash. Liver function tests should be conducted each month during therapy.

Cautions and Contraindications
When use with cycloserine (Seromycin) there is an increased possibility of convulsions.
Usual Dose
0.5-1.0 Gm in divided doses.
