Teveten (Eprosartan)

Purpose of Medication and Method of Action

Teveten is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It is usually given along wit other antihypertensive drugs. It exerts its effect by binding to a receptor for a substance produced in the body called angiotensin. Blockage of that receptor relaxes smooth muscle such as the walls of the blood vessels and prevents increased blood volume, both of which results in a lower blood pressure.

Side Effects

The most common side effects are: upper respiratory tract infections (8%), runny nose (4%), and coughing (4%).

Cautions and Contraindications

Teveten should not be used in women who are pregnant or who are attempting to conceive.

Usual Dose

600mg (one tablet) each day with or without food.
