Seromycin (Cycloserine)

Purpose of Medication and Method of Action

Seromycin is an antibiotic which is used to treat tuberculosis. It mechanism of action is bactericidal by preventing cell wall synthesis. Seromycin should be used together with other antitubercular drugs to which the organism is sensitive.

Side Effects

The most significant side effects which are seen with doses greater than 500 mg/day are: drowsiness, headache, tremor, confusion and personality changes.

Drug Interactions

Co-administration with Trecator may increase central nervous system side effects.

Cautions and Contraindications

Use with caution if history of epilepsy or severe depression.

Usual Dose

Adults - 0.5 -1.0 Gm. daily in divided doses.
