Renagel (Sevelamer)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Renagel is an oral medication indicated for the treatment of excess phosphorus in the blood (hyperphosphatemia). Renagel binds phosphorus in the intestine and prevents its absorption.
Side Effects
No significant side effects in excess of those seen with a dummy placebo have been reported.
Drug Interactions
Although none have been reported, other medications whose predictable absorption is important (digoxin, Coumadin, antibiotics), should be taken either one hour before or three hours after Renagel.

None
Usual Dose
Depending on serum phosphorus levels, 2-4 capsules three times a day with each meal.
