Precose (Tacrolimus, Acarbose)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Precose is indicated for use in non-insulin maturity onset diabetes (Type II). It acts by delaying the digestion of ingested carbohydrates thus resulting in a smaller increase in blood sugar following a meal.
Side Effects
The most common side effects are: flatulence (77%), diarrhea (33%), and abdominal pain (21%). These side effects tend to lessen over time.

Usual Dose
Initially - 25 mg three times a day taken at the beginning of each meal increasing to a maximum of 50 (<60 Kg.) to 100 mg (>60 Kg.) three times a day if necessary.
