Picibanil

Purpose of Medication and Method of Action

Picibanil is approved in Japan for:

  • Prolongation of survival time in patients with gastric and primary lung cancer.
  • Reduction of pleural effusion or ascites in gastrointestinal or lung cancers.
  • Head and neck cancer resistant to conventional chemotherapy.
  • Lymphangioma
  • The mechanism of action is unknown

    Side Effects

    The overall incidence of side effects is 30-35%. These include injection site pain, general malaise, anorexia, and fever. The most severe side effects include: interstitial pneumonia, acute renal failure and allergic shock.

    Usual Dose

    0.2-0.5 KE once daily increasing to 2-5 KE over 2-3 weeks.
