Muse (Alprostadil)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Muse is indicated for the treatment of male erectile disorders. Muse produces arteriolar vasodilation in the penis - this in turn produces a swelling which impeds the outflow of blood from the corpus cavernosa. This increase in blood inflow and impedament of outflow together produce an erection. Use of Muse results in 65% successful intercourse in non-complicated disorders of erectile dysfunction.
Side Effects
The most common side effects are: penile pain (30%), urethral burning (15%) and minor uretheral bleeding (5%).

Cautions and Contraindications
Muse should not be used in those with sickle cell anemia, thrombocytopenia or multiple myeloma.
Usual Dose
The average dose is 0ne 5000-1000mcg uretheral suppository inserted just prior to intercourse.
