Megace (Megestrol)

Megace is a synthetic derivative of progesterone which is used as a short-term appetite enhancer. The mechanism of action is unknown.
Side Effects
Unusual side effects are: abdominal pain, constipation, swelling of ankles, cough, and increase salivation.

Cautions and Contraindications
Megace is contraindicated in pregnancy and its use may make existing diabetes worse.
Usual Dose
The usual dose is 400-800 mg/day (10-20ml).
