Meclizine

Purpose of Medication and Method of Action

Meclizine is indicated for the treatment of nausea, vomiting, or dizziness associated with motion sickness. Although it is an antihistamine, that pharmacology is likely not the one responsible for the antiemetic effects of meclizine.

Side Effects

The most common include: drowsiness (common), dry mouth, and blurred vision.

Drug Interactions

The side effect of drowsiness may be increased with other medications which also produce drowsiness.

Cautions and Contraindications

Meclizine should not be used in women attempting to become pregnant.

Usual Dose

One-two tablets one hour prior to traveling. This dose may be repeated every 24 hours.
