Imipramine

Purpose of Medication and Method of Action

Imipramine belongs to a class of drugs called the tricyclic antidepressants. They may act by preventing the uptake of norepinephrine by nerves in the central nervous system. This allows for increased amounts of norepinephrine to be available outside the nerve with the resultant improvement in depression. It is also indicated in the treatment of childhood enuresis (bedwetting).
