Emsam (Selegiline)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Emsam patches are indicated for the treatment of major depression. It is in the class of MAO inhibitors that have been associated with dietary restrictions (cheeses) to avoid hypertensive reactions, a common side effect of MAO inhibitors. The systemic dose absorbed by this product is much lower than the oral dose and the side effects of the other MAO inhibitors are avoided.
