Elmiron (Pentosan)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Elmiron is use for the treatment of pain associated with chronic interstitial cystitis. The mechanism by which it produces its effect is unknown. Clinical improvement (reduction) in pain was shown in approximately 1/3 of patients.
Side Effects
Elmiron has weak anticoagulant effects thus it should be used with caution in those taking any other anticoagulant. Other side effects include: minor hair loss (4%), abdominal pain, diarrhea, and dizziness

Usual Dose
Concurrent use of anticoagulants.
Note
One capsule (100 mg) three times a day.
