Diazoxide
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Diazoxide is a nondiuretic thiazide-like compound which is taken orally for the treatment of hypoglycemia.
Side Effects
The most significant side effect is fluid retention which does respond to diuretic therapy. Ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar coma have been rarely reported.
Drug Interactions
Use of thiazide diuretics with diazoxide can significantly increase the hyperglycemic effects of diazoxide.

None
Usual Dose
The usual dose is 1 mg/kg three times a day with an average adult dose of 200 mg/day in three divided doses. To make a suspoension for oral administration. Place 5 Gm (5000 mg) diazoxide powder in 100 ml of chocolate milk to create a suspension of 50 mg/ml. SHAKE WELL!! Use a 3 ml syringe to administer correct dose orally. DO NOT INJECT!!
