Cozaar (Losartan)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Losartan is a drug used to treat hypertension. It acts by interfering with the action of angiotensin, a naturally produced substance which can increase blood pressure. It falls into the pharmacology class of being an angiotensin II receptor antagonist.
Side Effects
There is a low incidence of side effects (<4%) with the most common being: cough, diarrhea, and dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Use with potassium sparing diuretics such as spironolactone (Aldactone), triamterene (Dyrenium) and amiloride can increase potassium in blood to dangerous levels.

None
Usual Dose
The usual dose is 50 mg daily with a range of 25-100mg daily.
