Clomiphene
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Clomiphene is indicated in the treatment of ovulatory dysfunction in women who desire pregnancy. It acts by initiating a series of endocrine events culminating in preovulatory gonadotropin surge and subsequent follicular rupture with release of ova.
Side Effects
Side effects include ovarian enlargement (14%), hot flushes (10%), abdominal discomfort (6%), nausea (2%) and breast discomfort (2%).

Cautions and Contraindications
Pregnancy, liver disease, and presence of cystic ovaries
Usual Dose
One tablet (50mg) for 5 days.
