Amitiza (Lubiprostone)
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Amitiza drugs indicated for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation. The mechanism is unique in that it increases intestinal secretion of chloride ion thus bring water into the intestine and increasing fecal fluidity.
Side Effects
Side effects are relatively mild and include nausea (31%), diarrhea (13%), headache (13%), and abdominal pain and distension (7%).
