Albuterol Inhalation
Purpose of Medication and Method of Action
Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat the airway constriction which causes acute acute asthmatic attacks. It is not usually used to prevent asthma episodes.
Side Effects
The most common side effect is heart palpitations (15%), increased heart rate (10%) tremor (15%). The most significant side effect of cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm) occurs rarely only when an excessive amount is used. Also rare is the occurrence of bronchospasm which may be made worse by the inhalation of albuterol.

Usual Dose
Adults and Children over 12 -One to two inhalations every 4-6 hours as needed to treat asthmatic symptoms.
